These pieces dwell in that space. The anxious waiting. The creative potential. The Father, the Son, the Spirit, being in communion with each other. It's almost like a dance. There is choreography, there is order. There is reverence.
What comes after is the fingerprint, the unmistakable nature of divine creativity. There was stillness, there was the voice of God, then was light!
This character of God's creativity is seen again much later, after the Son walked the earth. It happens in a small, where a group of young men are hiding behind a locked door. Waiting.
A sound roars from the sky
like a violent wind
with the voice of a lion
then drops of flame
ripple like droplets
onto every man.
the Spirit hovers once again
and then, God breathed on them.
and they spoke…
The dance continues today, and into eternity.
He is still bringing stillness to weary souls.
He is still breathing new life into sons and daughters.
He is still speaking. And we have the freedom to dwell in His light.

// Waltz in the Waiting //
Sometimes we think of creativity as a flurry of activity. But most times it doesn't start that way. When God was ruminating on creating the universe we live in, he was not anxious. He was not impatient. His creativity came from a place of peace, and of unity. Father, Son, and Holy Spirit in communion with one another. Almost like a dance. Since they are three, I imagine it like a waltz. It is from this place of intimacy and close harmony that God begins to reveal His creative nature to us.
// Hover //
Imagination is an open horizon. Uncharted waters. The potential to discover and explore means that there are unknowns. Many unknowns. And a crucial element. Risk. Think about the heart of God at the beginning. He is all-knowing, yet He is about to create the world we will live in. And in that environment, we will discover His nature. He is putting His heart on His sleeve through everything He breathes into existence. Before all that, though, He is simply hovering over a vast expanse of water. I feel the love of God in this moment. This is the moment where He begins to risk everything to draw us to His heart.
// Resting in the Stillness //
Being still on our own can be difficult. But we don't have to be still on our own. Father, Son, and Holy Spirit are never alone. When God invites us into stillness, He is inviting us into their union. Being still AND knowing Him brings peace we thought not possible.
// The Expanse of the Waters //
God's desire was for good things to grow and expand. He does not think in the boxes of lacking resources we are used to. If He makes all things new, He makes them in abundance. When we partner with Holy Spirit to create, we should expect expansion. Multiplication. And when we make room the way He thinks, expect good things.
// Before the Breath //
The voice of God is so powerful. The entire universe obeys His breath. Light was an act of obedience to His voice. We are called to that same anticipation of what He says. When we get into a heart posture of leaning in and listening for His voice, His heart is moved by our attention. Before He speaks, though, there is real beauty in our relationship, just knowing we are in tune with Him.
